Hi guys

Posting on the off chance somebody has hired a scooter around there before

Towards the end of march I'm planning on spending 3-5 days shooting (photo'ing) a cycling team in Calp; I need to hire a scooter (probably 125cc) on a shoestring budget (I'm betting my savings on this trip).

There appear to be loads of rental houses 100k away - at/around the Airport - but all of their terms and conditions say you can't take them out of the area. So I need to find a company closer to Calp. There is one company who keep appearing on google, but charge 55eur a day!

Thanks for any advice/help/previous experiences/etc!

..

Ps, unrelated, I never posted it to the forum, if anyone was racing the thetford duskdawn enduro I shot it here.

I expect it wont be a problem in Calp its a fair size town. I have holidayed a little further up the coast in Moraira (great town) lots of places there to hire cars scooters etc. Hired a car from a small local company loads cheaper than the big companies and fine to deal with.

Thanks! Did you leave the hire until you got there then?

I have the benefit of the team being out there for the whole of next month, so I'm not going there completely blind)

We have friends out there who picked us up at the airport, they recommended a local company to hire a car from while we were there. We just popped in one day with passport driving licence etc.
The following year we went with same company but booked in advance, they met us at airport and gave keys to us. Very simple.

You need to talk to Neil (poolman) off here. He lives in Denia, just up the road from Moraira.

Been out there a lot on climbing trips and hired cars from http://www.victoriacars.com/spain_car_hire/car_hire_calpe.html but maybe they'll do scooters too. Always been good on car hire. doesn't help much....

yes I live in Denia there are 2 scooter hire places - 1 alongside train station & other on the front by the beach. I can get prices if you want.

Cheap way of getting to Denia is Alc - Benidorm by bus (8e alsa, 6e a2b transfers), Benidorm - Denia by train (4e).

3 TdF teams wintering round here, I saw 1 filming the riders by just driving with tailgate open & the tripod on the boot floor. Probably illegal so don't let the police see you or you will deffo get nicked.

Email me if you need anything.

I've done the train journey from Alicante to Calpe, picturesque! My parents are in Xabia/Javea if you need further help.

Has anyone done any MTB in the area? We didn't find very much last time. looks like we're walking the Bernia Ridge instead of taking bikes this year (June).

Bernia Ridge is excellent if you've not been up there before! It's a good day out, some excellent views!

yeah doesn't look difficult and the climbing pitch looks so bolted up it could be fudged if necessary.

you can probably hire a car for less than a scooter if its an option.

www.fireflycarrental.com have an office in Alicante, you need to have a CC for a deposit or they ask you to pay fully comp insurance on a debit card.

@B A Nana ther is loads of great riding there if you go inland a bit.

bike park about 45 minutes away
http://www.lafenasosa.com/ you can hire a battered Kona DH for about 50eur day

on the coast you have some nice trails inbetween benidorm and albir in the Sierra Helada.
