Anybody have any comparison info of using these two compounds in a Hans Dampf as an all-rounder rear tyre for the winter ?
I'm after something for mucky XC that will handle trail-centre type hard-pack as well as muck and slippery roots etc. without being hideously draggy.
Speedgrip sounds like it's intended for this kind of thing but wondering if it'll be grippy enough for those darned roots.
I'm going to be using a Soft Magic Mary upfront, on a 29er.
What do we think, any real-world experience out there ?
I would recommend whatever is nearest to the old Trailstar compound.
Rolling wise the grip will be fine both ends, it just comes down to how hard wearing you want it to be and whether you really need that much grip over roots on the rear.
I'll be more decisive actually, just buy the grip then if it wears out too quick go for a harder compound next time. That way you have the confidence - it won't be too draggy.
Just bought some speed grip Dirty Dans for the 29er.
Admitted a skinny 2 inch xc tyre but the rubber feels like Velcro.
Slow on the road but very grippy on the wet rocks and roots in the woods.
Much better than any spiky mud tyre I have had before on this type of terrain.
I would imagine the Hans Damf to be even better!
