For 5'9" average Joe. Medium usually suits me well. Is that 17" or 19" 29er?
It's not as easy as that, probably best to compare the geometry of what you currently have to the 17" & 19" Town Crier and then take into account anything you'd prefer to change before deciding on 17" or 19".

I've currently got a medium parkwood 29er that is going to donate parts. That seems to tally very closely with 19" but I don't really know enough to know if I want to change anything...
I’m slightly shorter than you (174cm).
Can’t work out the full geo but the seat tube and BB drop on the 17” look to be the same as my M El Mar; headtube a bit taller and effective top tube shorter on the Sanderson, and there aren’t any figures for reach or stand over…
