Hi,
I’ve just bought a Fargo frame with a view to creating a sort of road, towpath, gravel track tourer. I want to run 27.5 wheels (because I have some). I’ve now realised the frame is designed around 29”/27.5”+ and the min recommended tyres with 27.5 (non +) are 3.0”. Mine are currently 2.1.
Shoving these on the Fargo will drop the BB height a bit. Or maybe a lot, I’m struggling to work it out. Is this going to work or will I just created some kind of human powered lawn edger, i.e. keep hitting the ground?
And just at this point of mild panic I also realise I’ve been riding the same wheels on a Sonder Frontier, also setup for 27.5+/29, without constantly kicking the ground. Would the Fargo be similarly ok, or is it a disaster waiting to happen?
I’ve spent an hour googling but I’m none the wiser and frankly my head hurts.
Thanks in advance 🙂
Sorry, ignore this one - I think Trump has messed up the internet.
Yes, you can run 650b wheels on a Salsa Fargo:
Wheel size
Salsa bikes are designed to work with both 650b and 700c wheels. 650b wheels have a smaller diameter (584 mm) than 700c wheels (622 mm).Brake considerations
The Fargo has 70mm BB drop so it'll be fine with 650B wheels. You'll get a BB height a bit higher than an average road bike, CX bike sort of position. Ideal perhaps.
