Any one have one and running larger than the recommended 2.4 tyres. I’ve a frame and a Firestarter fork coming and wondering about the frame and fork clearances.

I’ve got one with a niner carbon fork and am sure you’ll get a larger tyre in the front-upto 29x3” I reckon with a firestarter carbon fork I would think as this fits into the niner fork ok. I have a 2.4” rear tyre on a 30mm rim and it fits with a bit of clearance. Hope that helps

Cheers Mark was thinking of a 2.6 front and a 2.4 rear, how do you find it?

What year frame is it?

My recently departed 2014 could take a 2.4 in the back but it was a bit of squeeze, especially if the alternator dropouts were at the shortest chainstay length. I used it with a 2.3 for most of its life. They were trying to squeeze big tyres, short chainstays and ability to use front mech so it's not as roomy as most new 29ers.

I also had the CrMo Firestarter fork. It had quite a lot more clearance than the frame, definitely used that with big 2.4 tyres. I'd have thought you'd have a good chance of getting a 2.6 in there but perhaps without much mud clearance.

@tomd it’s a 2016 frame that I was shocked came up on eBay as brand new in the box. Apparently it’s the nice red. I’d debated about running it with a suspension fork but then opted for the Firestarter fork, easily changed in the future I guess.

I have one (the red one) and a carbon firestarter fork. My bestest most favourite bike ever. The fork is rated for 29x3.0, and I don't see why not - it's huge. I have 2.3s on the rear, with the adjustable dropouts in the middle, and there's plenty of clearance. You might get a 2.6 in there with the dropouts moved back - after all when it was made there were only 2.4 and 3.0 tyres, 2.6 wasn't a thing.

Molegrips I just bought the chromo Firestarter fork (watching the pennies, off to Florida in three weeks) will probably upgrade to the carbon fork in the spring. Do you have any pics?

The CrMo firestarter fork is a really nice riding fork, quite twangy. I'm hoping to reuse it on another build. If you're not wanting something mega stiff or light then you might be surprised by it.

The paint was quite good qaulity but was in a right state after 5 year use. I'm not an invisiframe kind of person, also CrMo doesn't really rust very much even if the paint's chipped off so no need to be too precious.
