I've got a set of 2-pot Saint disc brakes that I cannot get to stop squealing. Post-mounted on a Fox 36 fork, using a 160-180mm adapter to run a bigger disc on the front.
I have (unsuccessfully!) tried to stop the squealing by:
- swapping wheels with another bike from the shed (the problem bike still squeals, the other (using old XT 4-pot calipers) does not)
- swapping to new pads (after ~5 sets of braking from speed to a stop, the squeal is back)
- swapping to different brakes - from Saint 2-pot to the similar style XT 2-pot (no change)
I can only think now that:
- both wheelsets I tried had contaminated rotors, but the 4-pots are just less prone to squealing (so the other bike I tried does not show the problem)
- the bolts on the +20mm caliper adapter (or the adapter itself) are knackered
I cannot for the life of me work out what's going on here - anyone got any helpful ideas before I buy a complete new set of pads and rotors??
