The attraction of the MTB must be that it is alot of a lottery
But presumably the fitness is a bit different even if you are a good bike handler
XC is much less of a lottery than road racing. The strongest rider usually wins.

repeated power surges of mtb will probably suit his style as well. would love to see him slugging it out with Absalon and Schurter,,,,but I've a feeling he'll have his work cut out.
