How many of those "great British craftsmen" were earning more than a subsistence wage i wonder?

It was good to see raw materials coming in at one end of the factory and a finished product leaving the other. Not many places I can think still happens.

Mixed feelings here.

The quality of those old British bikes was astounding.

I'm in the process of setting myself up with a roadster, so I've bought a few old wrecks for spares. My latest purchase was a 60 year old Triumph and it had completely rusted out mudguards etc. I was going to chuck the wheels but gave them a wipe first - unblemished chrome. So I took the rusty rims off and cleaned up the hubs - almost perfect after 60 years.

Frame painting was a bit scary, just roll up your sleeve and dip it in the vat
