[#11309165]

Following on from my commuting rucksack/back pack thread (decided to go with another Dueter Race EXP Air) ive also decided i no longer need a big rucksack for carrying tools and associated crap when on the MTB

So im after a Rucksack/Backpack with great airflow, around 3 litres (inc bladder) that will also take a small pump, shock pump, couple of tubes and a couple of other bits and pieces (zip ties, keys, phone etc...)

Airflow is very important as im a heavy sweater

What do you recommend?

From what you say there a bumbag like the osprey savu (or the bigger that takes a bladder) would do. I can carry all of the tools (and more) that you list plus 1.5l of water, snacks, phone, keys in my savu. Very comfy to ride in and airflow is 100% 😊. Doesn't move or bounce either even on the bumpiest trails.

Or if you really want a rucksack style then try a wingnut .

[edit] sorry, forgot that in marketing speak they are hip packs not bumbag just in case people get confused between mountain bikers and florida pensioners on holiday.......

Sounds like hip pack territory to me.

Acre Hauser? Pricey but comfy and cool on the back.

EVOC Stage 3 would do the job

3l bladder and space for kit is too big for a hip pack imo.

My camelbak mule LR 15 is great, make sure it's a backpack with a low hip mounted bladder and big waist strap, keeps all the weight around your waist and off your shoulders.

Full days with mine on with a full 3l of water, jacket, pump, lots of food, tube, tools etc so not light and zero issues, I forget I'm wearing it.

Edit - 3l including bladder, ahh. If a 1.5l bladder is enough, the evoc hip pack pro is brilliant.

Cheers guys

The Acre Hauser is a no go, poor back ventilation and the size means it's out

The Evoc stage 3 could be the one, will try and find one I can look at in the flesh

Cheers

bottle cages and seat pack for tools? then you don't need anything on your back!

I’m riding packless as much as possible these days.

Bike looks a bit like a Wild West prospectors mule but it’s a price I’m willing to pay!

For what you describe op, he's right.

I'm looking for a frame bag at present for exactly this reason.

I find the Evoc Stage 3 completely unnoticeable on my back. I use it on my gravel bike where I don’t want stuff on the bike except water bottle. So the pack has a tube, tools and spares, and takes my phone, keys, snack and a shell if required. Great bag IMO.

Cheers for more suggestions

This is kinda my current system but im limited to one bottle cage and i can only fit a 500ml bottle due to a piggy back shock

I have a Specialized Swat tool with chain breaker and spare links in the steerer tube and a Specialized Swat Mountain Bandit mounted under the saddle (holds one tube, one c02 cannister and pump head along with some patches) along with my phone and wallet in my pocket

All of which is great if im at a trail centre or less than 5 miles from the car where a quick fix can get me back riding or at least back to the car where more tools are kept along with a track pump

For bigger days i need to carry more fluid and another inner tube, plus a pump and a few other little bits and pieces hence only needing a 3L rucksack

The Evoc Stage 3 looks to be the ticket unless anyone can come up with something the same size with better airflow?

Wingnut sit very low, off your back, so are far less sweaty.

Osprey Viper 3? Can fit 1.5l of water, tube, pump, phone, keys, multitool, etc. Has a little pocket on the shoulder strap for a snack too.
