Hi,
Never taken forks apart so total rookie. I'm on a budget and happy to DIY if things are easy enough!
Just inherited a set of 2009 Dual Air Race and they feel and sound squeltchy when push through travel and also the lockout doesn't work.

Where would I start? Would removing the damper and checking the oil be a good start? what about seals and the squeltchy noise?

Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks

Yes, check oil levels first. You might also want to check that when you turn the lock out dial, the gate in the rebound cartridge turns too. I had a set of Pikes where the gate had become disconnected, fairly easy to put right.

You may as well service the lowers at the same time, unless you are definitely sending them off.

If a reba / rev lockout stops locking out I'd start by removing all the air (assuming dual air: from both + and -) and seeing if its possible to get full travel.

Theres a common-ish failing where fluid leaks from the damper into the lowers. When there's too much fluid / oil in the lowers you wouldnt get full travel and the lockout no longer works. The fix is a simple o-ring, and getting at it isnt too bad.

As for oils - a motorcycle shop is a good start, or CRC etc.

TF tuned have a nice kit that gives everything you need to do a lower leg service. They give enough oil for a couple of services too. Its not the cheapest but makes life easier with everything included together.

They also sell other kits if you are doing a full service ie air spring and damper service.

There are "how to" guides on You Tube by SRAM, and other guides on bike radar, pink bike. Have search and watch a few.

I've only done a lower leg service which was straight forward. But the full service doesn't look hard. Just need to work carefully and methodically to ensure everything goes back correctly.
