[#2881890]

Hey all,

I'm just getting my new bike setup and I'm not entirely sure how much pressure I should put in the rp23.
It's on a scratch air 9, sorted the fork out but the documentation for the rear isn't as simple, also I can only find info for the scratch air 8 or the coil 9' not the air 9.

It's just me being an idiot I suspect but I'm 85kg, 90 with all my gear on, it came with 150psi in the shock but I was using almost half the travel so I've put it up to 235 but I'm not fully confident I've got it right. It's been 5 years since I rode a full suss so sorry I'm being a bit stupid.

It's a 170mm travel shock so wouldn't it be more than 11mm or am I not understanding how travel is measured?
So to measure the sag should I be sat on the bike or stood on the pedals?

you are looking at 25% of the exposed (rofl) shaft

Okay so I've measured shaft :-/ it's about 64mm in length so should I be setting it to between 13 and 16mm?

More or less. It only gives you a starting point, you may find you like/need more or less air. Take your shock pump out on rides. Experiment.

25% is a bit cross country. I'd be looking for at least 30% possibly 40 if it's mainly for downhill duty.

Shock pump packed, I guess I'll take a tape measure too, if only it came with that handy sag measuring device like the talas!

Heres a chart by weight, isn't a scratch 9 air the same as an 8 but with fancier parts?

http://www.bike-manual.com/brands/trek/om/mountain/index.html

Don't focus too much on measurements, go by feel. The wee o ring on your shock shaft will tell you how much travel you are using. It is often said if you aren't bottoming out your suspension every now and then you have too strong a spring. Once you find your ideal settings write them down.

I think that site is the same as the one I've been looking at...

I was looking at the air8 settings but was originally thrown off by the incorrect heading Oof 'spring' above the PSI.
Looks like I might be close to the correct level though judging by the chart.
