Hi all,

In the Lakes for two weeks in August. First week near Keswick, so routes sorted for that. But second week we're staying at the National Trust campsite in Wasdale Head.

Has anyone got any route recommendations from Wasdale Head? Have read the Black Sail Pass descent is a good 'un?

Not adverse to a bit of hike a bike if necessary. Maybe 3 hours or so.

Thanks.

4 passes natch

This one has an up and down to Styhead Tarn, and also an up and down to Black Sail ( which is the easy/ best of the 4 imho)

The descent to Mitredale in Eskdale is good in the above route.

Apart from that I dont have much. I really struggled to find much when we stayed in Eskdale.

Eh? There's loads of riding around eskdale

But from wasdale head 4 passes but its a big un or for a shorter sojourn blacksail to ennerdardale to floutern tarn, along buttermere, back over to blacksail hut and over the pass again.

There's riding in Blengdale forest, give it a strava stalk

Or the generalists route over mitredale and back via burmoor tarn with an option of a second loop on the bw west of burnmoor tarn back down to the mitre and round again to boot

Or go over burnmoor north to south and ride up hardknott for the megalolzzzz and then fown into hardknott forest and round harter fell

Perfect, thank you. Will do the Four Passes if I can fit a whole day in to ride, or do some of the shorter suggestions if not.

What's this track called and is it rideable?

Better as a hike?

From just near the end of Ennerdale and goes over to Was****er.

Someone on here gave me a route which we only partly did so not sure how long/good/hard the whole thing is, I'd imagine more than 3 hrs
Brackenclose (Just behind the campsite)
Maiden Castle
Burnmoor lodge
Boot
Bakerstead
Miterdale forest
Irton fell
Nether Wasdale

(we turned right at Bakerstead and went back to Maiden Castle, can't recall the reason we cut it short, maybe we decided it was a bit long for us)

3 hrs time limit is the tricky bit.

I'm pretty sure you could do Burnmoor Tarn - Boot - Eskdale Green - Miterdale Forest in that time limit (B.A.Nana's suggestion). In Miterdale you follow the zigzag forest roads up rather than the bridleway, which is a push. As a circuit it works pretty well in either direction, but I think clockwise is slightly better.
