I recently introduced my partner to MTBing and I'm trying to find a suitable, beginner-friendly route that she's really going to enjoy.
The main issue is that we live in London and don't have a car, so any route has to be reachable by train - ideally from Waterloo.
What I'm looking for is something scenic (the more impressive the better), of about 15-25 miles, avoiding roads (she still gets really nervy in traffic), with gentle gradients and no particularly techy terrain. A nice pub or cafe stop halfway round would be an added bonus.
I realise that I'm asking a lot, but if anyone has any suggestions then it would be greatly appreciated.
Train to Swinley or South downs way?
New Forest might fit. Easy to get into by train, gentle off-road and rather pretty.
Thanks both. Not considered the New Forest but had a look into it and seems quite promising.
Snaps - I'm sure the South Downs has just what I'm looking for, but I've never been there before so I really wouldn't know where to begin. Any suggestions for easy/scenic routes that start by (or near) a train station?
