[#6357834]

Riding from hope tomorrow and thinking of Roman Road, Potato Alley, Over to Fairholmes and then to Ladybower.

Was then going to get back to Hagg Farm and then up the Beast and back to Hope.

Anyone got some better suggestions? Don't want a massive run (about 90mins-2 hours.) but wonder if there are some better ways of getting back to hope.

Cheers

I don't know whether it's better, but I don't push up the beast, I carry on the trail left and go up that really steep looking ascent on the right. It's flat from forestry vehicles, ends coming up through some woods and you come out up the hill in between Win Hill and Hope Cross then you can drop down in to Aston and then Hope.

It's not that exciting but at least it's ridable (Unlike the beast, for me at least).

Also, once when collapsed at the top of that climb, I saw a crossbill - never seen one in the UK before or since.

Instead of pushing up all of the beast, as soon as you are over the bridge after the A57 turn right & up then follow it to the left. It's still a push but cuts a corner off and joins the beast part way up

Cheers.

What would you say is the best way down from Hope Cross back into Hope?

Potato Alley is also known as Blackley Hey. If you head up the Roman Road to Hope Cross, then instead of turning right for The Beast, carry straight on. It takes you down to the A57 opposite the Rowlee farm climb.

I should be heading down cut gate to Ladybower later so say hi if you see a bloke on a white Zesty. But don't ask me for directions.

Subjective but I think Potato alley is poo. The good thing about it is it tails in/leads in nicely into a loop whilst avoiding having to push up Hagg or cycle 700m's along Snake pass to rejoin the loop.

There is another way but I'm not allowed to say.

Anyway- I don't like Potato alley- its just open wide doubletrack and a waste of height. I hate such tracks- prefer techy descents.

The mystery track Hora is on about is along the side of the culvert. Last time I was there it was blocked by multiple trees and a total swamp, like knee deep, not just a couple of puddles. Even when its clear and dry its the dullest track ever, better to spin along the 57 as its less effort and quicker.

Cha****ng - where you with two other guys ome on a blue commencal and another on a bronson?

Had a great ride but always think it'll take less time that it does. I'd forgotten how good Fairholmes is and was shown some nice descent back to the tarmac on roman road. Great evening for it too

Nope. I got fed up with riding beside the reservoir before ladybower and did some cheeky bits instead.

First time I've ridden cut gate, awesome trail.
