Don't remember doing it but I've managed to round my rear axle bolt. Tried all the solutions I can find from old posts on here and other sites but no luck at all. Any ideas?

Plusgas on opposite side, leave a day then use a park tool with extractor side on it. Or a bigger Torx and a bit of violence

I used a pair of pipe grips around the head of the bolt on mine and just unscrewed it like that.

I usually use a flat needle file, and open them up to 8mm so they can still be used.

Or the burgtec ones have hex fittings both ends to resolve just this sort of problem 😉

Burgtec is the first thing that pops up on their website's other products page with all the info needed,  but I honestly don't know how people keep doing this without thinking they're totally hamfisted gorillas with no sense of torque or common sense, there's even writing on most bolt heads that you can use as a reference point if you haven't got a torque wrench on you. Maybe my thinking is a little harsh but I've never and will never round one off.

A friend kindly left his P-X Free Ranger for me to deal with a seized and rounded front thru-axle. The head has cracked across the hex meaning any leverage simply opens it out, but there’s not enough of a protrusion to grip.

First attempt with a thread extractor resulted in the extractor snapping. Re-inserted the (broken) extractor with some Stilsons. Extractor snapped again, leaving the stub stuck inside.

So far I’ve drilled it out thru-axle to 10mm, still not budging, but worried going bigger will damage thread in fork. I thought about putting a saw through the end cap, but checking another wheel of the same model, it appears that this would cut through the hub spindle too - I assume spares are available but not listed online and the distributor not replying to emails.

Next step will involve grinding the thru-axle inside-out with a Dremel - some minor damage to inside hub spindle, but won’t kill hub. All for the sake of not greasing a thru-axle FFS.

Glad I could help.

I actually used to take a small pair of knipex grips with me everywhere and never bothered to even replace my thru axle lol.
