[#10791316]

I have just purchased a Trek checkpoint that has a bb92 BB and comes with a Shimano double Crankset which I have removed

I have a rotor 3D xc3 which I thought would be a simple swap and allow me to run a single ring but once installed there is too much free play even with the preload cap full tightened

Does anyone have any ideas what I am doing wrong? I could get some spacers but this will alter the chainline or make the arms uneven?

Are you sure the Trek is BB92?

BB92 is a MTB BB, whereas a "Shimano double Crankset" sounds like a road chainset, so will be designed for a narrower BB (as in BB86)

If the frame/BB is actually BB86 then you'll need to add spacers to make a MTB chainset fit.

Thanks for the replies

Trek list the bikes as having a Shimano RS500, 92 mm, PressFit

But the frameset for the same bike is listed as 86.5mm

When I measure it seems to be 92 or 90

Do you mean spacers on the crank spindle or is there a way to add spacers to the bb like you can with a threaded BB?

The bearings are push-fit you can't add spacers - add spacers to either side of the spindle them to keep the spacing even / chainline correct.

+1 add spacers to the crank axle.

Yes you'll change the chainline and/or crank arm position, depending on which side you add the spacers but we're talking about 3mm each side, I suspect, so the world won't end.

You can't have it both ways. MTB chainsets are wider than road. That's just the way it is.

Having said that, you could attempt to re-adjust the chainline if you're prepared to tweak the chainring position with spacers.
