I was thinking of upgrading my front brake on my cube from the 160mm to a 180mm. Ive noticed that the rotor doesnt have 6 cap heads that i can just unscrew, but its actually rivated to the hub. Do i need to replace the complete hub to upgrade brakes?
Is it a center lock?
Photo would be great buddy....?
What hub is it? Shimano centre lock? There.must be some way to remove it or they'd never get the spokes in the wheel.
Pics?
ur biek ar saracin
Sounds like a centerlock, all you need is this

or

Or the same tool from any other manufacture
Thanks for the reply. Ive just had a quick look at the bike and on the net and Yes its a center lock. My bike is the 2011 cube attention. My old bike just had 6 bolts attaching the rotor. Im not to sure how this center lock works, is it a new way of attaching it?
'new' about 5 years ago, most of them use a cassette lock-ring tool to remove them (15mm & 20mm hubs IIRC use a larger, proprietary tool).
Jimc101 the picture in that link looks the same as my setup. Ill order one of those tools now. So when i am looking for a new rotor i have to get the type that fits this center lock system and not just one with the 6 holes in?
Another question i have is if i upgrade from 160 to 180 rotor what sort of adaptor do i need for the calipers to fit over the new size? Ive looked on the net and and r lots of different ones. Some say post mount to standard and others say post mount to post. How do i know which i need?
Without knowing the fork / brake set up you have currently, no one can answer that accuratly. Post up what fork / caliper you have then advise can be given
For Centerlock or not, you can get adaptors to convert to 6 bolt, but these cost almost as much as a new rotor on their own.
My fork is rockshox dart3 and brake is Shimano BR-M4451

more like 15 years ago when Hope were doing a whole load of lockring hubs.
Wheels like Fulcrums just use an HTII BB tool, simples
Can't find much info for the M4451, it looks to be a post mount, if so, then you need a 180mm Post to Post mount, like this
If the caliper is International Standard, then it would be a IS to 180 adaptor
Illustrations of both are on the link, the M485 looks similar to the M4451
Ok thanks alot. I think i should be able to work it out now from the link
Techdocs are your friend for any Shimano part or how to, if you ever break anything, give the Y code to your LBS, and they should be able to get any part you need.
Yeah ive been been looking on techdocs. Its amazing. Every single part in great detail and like u said, all the codes for every part
