Looking to build up a 29er+ bike.
A new, albeit MK1, Krampus can be had for just over £400.
A Rooster is a fiver short of £600.
I have a Puffin and have previously had a Swift and really like Sam's ethos and bikes but I'm finding it hard to look passed the difference in price - I knew I should've backed the Kickstarter!
I have a full build of bits and would be starting off with an Alfine hub so the need to tension a chain is paramount.
What are people's thoughts?
Any alternatives I should consider?
Stick a 27.5+ on the back & most 29ers will run a 29+ up front, more choice etc.
I already have a pair of 29er+ wheels ready to roll.
I like the idea of 650b+ but I don't believe any of my 29ers will fit a 2.8 tyre on a 40mm+ rim. Going narrower doesn't seem to make sense.
You've had positive experience with Singular - go with the Rooster.
What's £200? A couple of nights out?
I'd go for the Krampus. The geos are very similar, the Singular is maybe very slightly slacker and a little longer (10mm extra tt on the medium). Neither of these are things I've thought were remiss on my Krampus. Personally i also prefer the simplicity of horizontal dropouts over an EBB.
A saving of £200 is enough to buy some nice finishing kit.
Looking at the geometries, the Rooster seems to sit nicely between the Krampus and the ECR, so have remained happy with my choice of Rooster even with the wait.
Will a new swift not take 29+ wheels?
a mate has a krampus & he loves it.

Krampus are great, isn't the new stooge 29+ compatible?
I bought the Krampus ops mainly for the geometry. The Surly was longer and kept more stand over.

I'd agree with this. But they are both great frames.
Go for the Krampus, great bikes. Mines been round NZ with me and raced both enduro and DH out there, so the capital trail in Edinburgh this year was perfect for it, just the engine that struggled.
My Bucksaw stays are currently away being modified for 29+, so when they return it'll be a full suss 29plus trail devouring weapon 😀

Horizontal dropouts on my chopped and dropped Kilaeua.
That I don't have a problem with, and they're rim brakes.
