I am having trouble finding a roof mounted carrier for a giant trance. My existing low end halfords racks wont go wide enough for the down tube. Does anyone know if an atera GIRO AF or Thule 591 will fit?

My 08 model works fine with a 591, although the 07 and 08 frames are different I'd be very suprised if yours wouldn't work with a 591. Sorry for a vague response!

Trouble is they moved away from the shock going through the downtube design in 2008 - I am worried the downtube on the 2007 model will be too big for the clamps.

When wide open, the clamps on my 591s are 9.5cm wide, at the narrowest point.

I think the Atera Giro AF takes downtubes up to about 100mm. Not entirely sure. Can you download the manual from their website? I know that it has a diagram in there.

Just make sure the locking mechanism works if you do order one of those.
I've got two and had to have one replaced after the clamp decided it was intermittently not going to stay clamped up. I now use bungee cords round them as extra security - not worth the risk of having my bike fall off.
I got mine from the roofbox company & they were well priced & the service was good. Even the exchange was dealt with quickly and with no quibble.

Hmmm. No further forward really. The atera looks like it will work but the diagrams show round and oval tube profiles - 2007 trance is sort of squareish down at the clamp point. Someone *must* be carting a 2007 trance around on a car roof somewhere...
