I've just finished building up a Rohloff wheel to go on the HT, and am now pondering the controls. It strikes me that mounting the grip shift on the LHS would separate shifting from control of the front brake.

Has anybody done this? Found it advantageous?

The gear indicator numbers would be upside-down, of course, but I recokon I can live with that! ๐Ÿ˜‰

In effect, this is what a RH mounted shifter would achieve elsewhere in Europe with brake levers being the reverse of here.

I've done that for a few people - you know there's a LH version of the shifter if you want the numbers the right way up?

Also with the Rohloff, you can decide whether gear 1 or gear 14 is the top gear - so you can pick which way you twist to change up and down.

I've thought about it but never actually got round to doing it. The numbers after a bit of use become pretty hard to read anyway so I wouldn't worry about that. I just have a dab of paint on 7 to give me an idea of where I am.

Yes, I've done this. It took me a good few rides to get used to shifting with the left hand, but once it becomes second nature being able to shift down and brake at the same time is great.
