Morning All, hope all are good and groovy.
The bearings on my Slayer are in need of replacing so I thought as the paint was rather tatty too I would get the bike resrayed at the same time.
I have managed to get replacement graphics for the main RM logo, Slayer 50 etc however cant find the tribal pattern located on the top tube near the seat post.
Is it possible that somebody out there in STW land could either send me pics of the tribal pattern or even more moon-on-a-stick-tastic trace it and send me a copy please?
I have contacted Silverfish who told me that RM dont provide graphics as an aftermarket so I wondered if any owners out there could help?
I'll have a look this evening, when I get home from work. I'm not sure what "tribal" patteren you are talking about though as I can't say i've ever noticed it. Mine is the HotRod though so some decals may be different.
No, the '05 was the older design.
I meant the graphics.
I had a slayer 30 and don't recall any tribal markings either
I've just remembered that there was a limited edition paint job that was called the "Tribal". Is that what you mean satyhigh, if it is then I totally missunderstood what you meant and I doubt I'll be able to help.
Its the older SHAPE the shape shown for the Cult version came out in 06 IIRC. Im not sure it will be on the Hotrod version but if you could let me know that would be great.
Its not the Tribal model either as that had a more American Indian theme to it.
ooooh
oddly enough the bearings have just gone in my RM Edge
where'd you get the bearing done/from
I'm also considering a respray. i'd love details of who you use/what the results are like
No pattern on the hotrod at the top tube/seat post I'm afraid, sorry.
mrmichaelwright, I got the bearings on my Slayer done at my LBS although they do stock silverfish stuff. Have a look at the silverfish website for your stockist, even if they don't stock RM bikes they should be able to help you out.

Silverfish are the uk importers for Rocky Mountain along with a bunch of other similar brands. They normally advise you to order the parts through your local RM dealer (which can be located on their site). I'm not sure if you can order them directly through Silverfish. IIRC they quoted £85 for the set of bearings.
Some people have suggested finding a local bearings suppliers and getting the bearings you need through them. I think some have a serial number on them failing that the supplier can match them by size.
mrmichaelwright I found a place in Edinbrugh called KATEC BIKES that offers frame refurbishment, bearings and powder coating and was planning on using them. They offer a budget kit with a 18-24 month bearing lifespan (£130) and performance with 3-4 years (£150) with postage costs on top. I dont know if this is an exact price or an in-the-area-of type thing and they estimate turnaround of 10-14 days.
thanks, dropped silverfish a mail yesterday, don't really trust my lbs to do it (roady shop realy) so will need to go further afield
might just do the main bearings and consider respray later in the year
interesting.........
Hmmm after searching throught the forum he certainly seems a colourful character lol That said though does anybody know if his bearing kits are any good or not?
Hello.
Actually I can't be arsed doing resprays, too much work not enough money.
Few things to watch out for and a lot to know about removing old bearings and fitting new ones. Also a lot to know about bearings, material, design, to pregrease or not to pregrease and then of course what kind of grease for what application. All these factors and a lot more will determine how long the bearing last.
Most important thing with the respray is the prep work, it's where you pin it! or **** it up!
That said good luck and my bearings are the best RARARA!!!!!!!!!
Stayhigh, I recently replaced the bearings in a mates 05 slayer and I have to warn you that the bearing set nearest the bottom bracket was a complete arse to replace. There is two bearings pushed in from either side against a central shoulder with little space between them to get a good purchase on to drift out, but before you get that far the first obstical is that there is two aluminium sholder'd bushings that are pressed from either side into the bearings that have to be removed first. I tryed a stud extractor, but they just wouldnt budge and it easily chewed up the soft bushing. I had to carefully file the sholder off so I could punch the bushing right through from one side, and then make some intresting shapped drifts to get the rest of the bearings out.
Fortunatly I'm a maintenance engineer and had the benefit of a machine and tool shop. I wouldnt recomend your typical DIYer try this one. We didnt get any new bushes in the kit either, so I manufactured a pair of phosphor bronze bushes to replace the original crapy aluminum ones that had worn and coroded anyway, so should last a lot longer.
Either way, if you fancy a go at them yourself, you need to ensure you get the bushes with the bearing kit or you could be without a paddle.
I have tools that will strip those frames in no time, I also have aq fabricators so replacement part wont be too hard to manufacture.
If you want to post your frames into me I will do the jobs as cheaply as possible, I would rather not respray them but I can if you want me to.
I have the bearings in stock in my budget and performance range and have serviced loads of slayers from 05 or older and other similar frames.
If you decide to do the job your selves and get stuck just email me.
good luck.
