[#1016739]

Just installed 2009 SID World Cups (100mm)

Having just read the almost useless Rock Shox manual, I could do with any advice/ tips on setup based on your experience and that'll get me past the trial and error stage. I really could do with any settings that work for you, especially from the heavier fraternity.

Having come from Fox where the manual gives pretty good advice, including base settings I think its pretty shameful to give 6 pages (in English) covering the entire fork range (whinge over!)

Many thanks

Andy

how heavy is heavy ? you do realise there is a weight limit on them ? and i being quite far under it my self and knowing plenty others who are and have twisted the lowers riding purely XC i wouldnt fancy being "heavy" on them

Stick enough air in the top to give you correct sag (20-30%ish)

Then match it in the bottom.

Set rebound to taste.

Job's a good un.

One thing I've found *very* worth while with RS forks - ride them for 3 or 4 times, then drop the lower legs off, change the bath oil and grease the wiper seals with Prep M. They'll be MUCH suppler afterwards. (RS, just like Fox never stick enough oil in the lowers)

These SID World Cup forks are flexy but this bit about rider weight twisting the forks is a bunch of baloney. I weigh 215, down from 240 that I weighed when I started riding this fork in 2005. Ive got 2000 miles (at least) on this bike, run very rough terrain and have crashed this thing through ruts, rocks etc. It is still straight as an arrow. I rebuilt it once and put new seals in. Keeps going strong. (Knock wood). I just dont see the issue. I run 155 and 145 with medium rebound and it sticks to the ground like glue.

I weight 80kg and mine have twisted once now...

I don't have any setup advice to contribute, though I am interested as I've no idea how to get it right myself.

I weigh in at 72 kg fully laden and run mine at 100psi with the rebound set about half way.
Never had them twist & whilst yes the old 28mm SIDs were flexy as hell the modern day 32mm stanchions are not. Just changed mine to 2011 XX version & love the hydraulic lockout.

I have my 09 ones up for sale but there is a wear mark beginning to show on one stanchion.

about 25% sag, Rebound slightly slower than half for me.

I find them (09) stiff for an xc fork - nothing like the older SIDs

They do take a bit of bedding in and set-up is pretty critical - 10psi either way can make a noticeable difference in fork feel.

Set-up as JonEdwards says ^^ but be prepared to fiddle around with them for a bit.
