Recently got some second hand Rockshox Recon Race forks to replace some Marzocchi Z3 lites on a late 90's Rock Lobster as they were just about the only decent forks available with V brake bosses that could also be shortened.

Love the difference it has made to the ride as far as being able to lock them out, but could someone give me some advice as far as setting up sag & rebound (sag on 80 mm travel?!!).

Another thing, . . . the old Marzocchi had only 60mm travel, the Recons I have reduced to 80mm. It turns out that both forks measure exactly the same from the wheel centre to the top of the stantions (the rockshox use just about all of the visible stantion whereas the Marzochi had 20 odd mm spare), the only difference is that the crown on the Rockshox is 15mm taller, so that's all I've gained in realistic height.
I now want to lower my centre of gravity a touch & get a bit more forward as the front end can feel a bit light on a steep climb. but I was surprised to read in these forums that 100mm stems & over are considered a bit long. The one I have at the mo' is 110mm centre to centre I think with a 10 - 15 deg rise. Originally I was thinking of getting a 120mm with 6deg that I could flip over, any thoughts welcome.

Loco has a set up guide on this website that is easy to follow.

http://locotuning.co.uk/tech-info.html

Something round the fork leg to measure travel - you want sag to be around 25-35% of travel so 20-30 mm (approx) with your set up and to get full travel on the biggest hits you normally take

Measure sag with you standing on the pedals in the position you would normally adopt.

Rebound - enough to stop it bobbing not so much it packs down.

Just tinker to you get it right
