[#2397003]

Son number two has purchased some nice Rockshox Pike 426's to a adorn his Charge Iron. I was about to fit the starnut & noticed that there is a threaded boss (M6 thread) in the bottom of the steerer tube (see pics) I gave it a gentle tap from the inside with a long drift but I suspect it's been pressed in.

Is there a special long bolt available to go from the steerer cap all the way down to the threaded boss ?

What's the scoop ?

Thanks in advance, D.

Don't remove the boss!

It's threaded to attach mudguards to, but that's not it's main purpose.

A starnut will be a lot lighter than a 200mm long bolt!

Thanks Peter.

The reason I'm hesitating is that if I put a starnut in there's no option of removing it again by driving it out the bottom of the steerer. I realise I'll probably never have cause to do this, but it's given me pause for thought.

As for the weight, It's not my bike ๐Ÿ˜€ It belongs to a 17 year old racing snake. He could do with slowing down a bit (to allow me to catch up )

a star-nut will drill out from the top.

Star nuts can be removed by bending the tabs back with a screwdriver. ๐Ÿ™‚

Right, thanks for the replies.

If I can get an expander plug locally I'll use one, otherwise it's the starnut. I'm under pressure to get this done ๐Ÿ˜€
