Just got back from 1st foray to Wakerley/Fineshade woods & am pretty impressed.
Blue bits off family trail in Fineshades were a bit of fun & the red in Wakerley was a decent challege (1 gear riding + beard) with some nice swoopy bits. Would say the red shits on the one @ Thetford.
Probably not worth the journey if you're >1hr away, but otherwise not bad at all. Some unofficial jumps, but they were terrible.
Leisure Lakes have got in on the act to help expand their ever growing empire by opening a small shop managed by a very convincing Dale Winton impersonator
They run regular evening rides which sounded inviting until I heard they get up to 35 people!!
1st heard about these tracks this morning on here, was supposed to do Snowdon but the weather said no so, hastily found something else to do.
Will be going again...
Leisure Lakes? You sure you don't mean Rutland Cycles?
might have to venture over in the morning i think....any idea if it would suit a 4 and 5 year old?
4 year old is a tad nervous and prefers his tracks easy whereas the 5 year old isnt fussed and she likes any track that dad take her on

Certainly do! Couldn't help comparing them to LL when I was in the shop for some reason & now I'm a bit tiddly I can hardly tell the difference.
Freudian slit or something...
Rob...I'm not far away from the area in Bedfordshire, do you have a link to the place. Googled it but only comes up with a car park next to lakes?
Always good to find more options locally.

Fineshades side (Green/Blue) will be fine for both of them.
Apart from a couple of sections near the start & finish (assuming you use the 'roadside' trailhead and not the carpark one) most of the Scartree red is rideable at trundling speed and only shows its red 'teeth' when you start to hammer it.
And yes, Scartree probably > Thetford Red on balance (except for a couple of bits at the latter which I really like - Duck & Cover/Risbeth being one of them).
I thought it was Rutland Cycles too - not part of Leisure Lakes are they?

@ transporter13
I think Fineshades side should be ok - some bits were steeper than I expected but the main route is nice & wide and well surfaced.

theres a couple of tricky bits, your kids should be fine though (it's usually very quiet even for a sunday morning). I wouldn't ride the newest bit (hand written signage) if your tyres are puncture prone as the bramble hadn't been cleared properly when we rode it (not really missing much)
