Done about 1400 miles on my 2011 120mm RLT forks, so I guess I ought to service them - or should I leave well alone as they seem to work just fine? I'm pretty careful to clean the stanchions after most rides, usually lubing them with ACF 50 or GT85.
I've had motorcycle forks apart before, but is there anything I should watch out for if/when I elect to strip the SIDs ?
So has no one else considered / serviced their own SID's?? A little help here please - it's (nearly) Christmas after all.. ๐
full service manuals are available on the SRAM/rock shox website - it's very easy to do a simple oil change. Might be worth getting some spare wiper seals in, just in case.
I wouldn't bother with GT85 on the stanchions - there's a risk it will seep past the seal and start to break down the grease and oil inside.
I use Brunox deo fork lube sprayed on the stanchions after most rides & after every clean. Smells nice if nothing else ๐
I would just do a lower leg service as it will only take 15 minutes
sids are easy to service - just buy a long socket to remove the foot nut in the leg - halfords time unless you own one...

Oh dear, GT85...
I've not had SIDs apart but I have had Revs and Rebas (and Fox Floats) in bits. It's really not that hard, as long as you have the right size spanners etc and you follow the instructions on the SRAM website.
With that much distance on them, you should change the wiper seals. You'll probably find lots of dirt in the spongy bits under the old seals when/if you take them apart.
That's grand - cheers all. Just need to get a deep socket then..
Have a good Christmas one & all. ๐
One tip - DO NOT use any kind of aerosol cleaner such as disc cleaner or isopropyl alcohol on the foam rings > it causes them to swell up and you'll never get them back in properly!
Not sure if GT85 etc have the same effect. What I did was soak them in some fork oil, which helps lift alot of the grime, and them blotted the oil/dirt out of them.
Oh dear, GT85...
This.
I agree with cp, also rock shox reccommend Brunox Deo have a look Brunox Deo :-)
