[#4267604]

Hi

Just undone the speed adjuster from the remote (it came loose when I was unscrewing the hose from the remote .........I know **** happens sometimes ๐Ÿ™‚ Should not be an issue, but could not get my head round how it works. No problem to screw back in,but cant understand how this can control speed. I know I should get out more ๐Ÿ™‚ but just wondering how it works. Any idea anyone?

Thanks

Guessing it increases/decreases pressure in the system which increases/decreases the speed at which the post rises again.

If you push the remote just a little bit the seat goes up ever so ever so slowly. So the adjuster changes the amount you push at full compresion, so the seat either rises gently, or rams your testicles back where they came from.

Reverb has 3 things going on:

Air pressure to extend post
Hydraulic oil circuit to lock out post
Remote lever to activate a needle valve

Activating the remote lever opens a needle valve to allow the oil in the hydraulic lock circuit to flow.

The speed adjust works just like a barrel adjust on a mech and limits the throw of the needle valve on the lock circuit. Full open, fast flow - part open, slower flow.

Same effect can be achieved by fully opening the speed adjust but part pushing the button.

@trimix

That would make for a great youtube vid "Hi, I'm Herc Castro at the Sram Tech centre, and today we're going to be showing you have to change the fairy that pushes your reverb up and down. Now if your reverb has become slow that's probably because the fairy is old, and tired, or maybe even dead! But before we start you will need your new live fairy, some fairy dust, and a reverb seal kit so the fairy stays good and fresh for as long as possible."

Thanks for all your replies everybody.

Sorry, but I am still no wiser. I understand flow etc.

However, as the adjuster only seems to run up and down on the outside of the hose (screwing either in / out on the outside of the remote) I cannot understand how this can possibly have any effect on fluid flow. However, clearly I must be missing something obvious.
Thanks again

I think it's a bit like the adjusters on old hope C2's, i.e. having it wound out to 'slow' means the lever has to be pushed all the way in to move the valve in the post a little bit. Turning it to fast decreaces the volume of the system, so when you press the button the valve is almost already open (a bit like setting the pad contact to almost no free play on C2's).

The reason the reverb slows down over time would be due to a slight loss of fluid in the system, which would have the same effect as winding it to slow as for the same lever push the valve now only opens a little bit.

Thanks thisisnotaspoon.

Thats how it works.

I had gone into full on fluid engineering mode, intead of looking at it in my normal simplistic way. Basically, its just an on / off push button with an adjustable stop, which controls how far in the push button goes, thereby restricing or increasing flow of the fluid.

Feel like a bit of a idiot now. On a positive note though, I should get some sleep tonight ๐Ÿ˜€

Cheers

So after all that, for the simple minded - it is magic.

For the intellegent, it is not magic.
