I did an average of 29.4mph on my singlespeed.
Real figure from my GPS, slightly uphill.
Averaged out over 15 seconds. ๐

managed mach 1 uphill, but can't find the plot.
so will have to make do with 327km/h to try to get average speed back to an acceptable level, but it wasn't quite enough quick enough to get inside the hour. will have to trim the start of that ride to remove all the traffic lights and low intensity warm up
I did once ride from home to work via Canada, staying only for a second before coming back to Sussex again. Still only took me 35 minutes though. I was pretty chuffed with that.
A very impressive 0.1mph over 7.6miles.............. on my turbo trainer since January. This is proper GPS distance (oxymoron) as measured by my Edge 800 and does rather put Strava timing into perspective.
I once ran a 4m mile in London. I was a bit miffed when Strava automatically deleted it. Can't think why..
Has it got anything to do with photocopiers?BenjiM - Member
Gatsby is a previous poster on here. Although I won't say who unless he wants to himself.
**goes off to Google photocopiers on STW**
Is this back on again tonight, or have the fast guys got SAS commitments?
God I hope not, I've got stuff to do.
I pootled, 17.4mph, much more normal. Wind was a pain. Sunny though!
21.9 on today's lunchtime spin, but it was practice on the TT bike on tomorrow's (somewhat lumpy) course so not really representative of anything, I thought it'd be a bit quicker TBH ๐
21.9 on today's lunchtime spin,
mph or kph Mr B? ๐
If it was kph I'd be very worried!
Im going out on my wednesday night ride with a fast crew . I'm going to average 20mph , as we work as team practising through and off's and some team time trial work.
Its still a 20mph average though , So I will be uploading this to Stravaaaaaaaaa and claiming my average road speed is indeed 20mph and drafting has no effect on this obv's.
Having done some longer runs and round trips i would agree a true average of say 18mph is harder to maintain than 23mph over several miles with favorable conditions. ๐
Indeed, if you can keep up a true solo 18mph average over a normal road ride of say 1-2hrs with 500-1000ft per 10miles you're doing very well, if you can keep that up over a longer ride of 3-4hours you're doing flippin well indeed!
cold out last night so I buried myself on my easier 20 mile loop from home that skirts the edge of the moors. 17.5mph average over 20 miles with 1500ft of climbing.
if I go out onto dartmoor proper it drops to more like 14-15 mph.

Cold indeed, dodging snow showers on my morning ride today, fair bit of wind too.....average only 16.5mph.

It is Monday morning after all! ๐

"I personally always aim for 20.4mph over blah blah blah..."
Marathon runners yesterday averaging 13mph stops me ever posting in this thread...

surely pro cyclists averaging over 30mph would be more relevant?

Won't catch me waving it about in the snow - think of the frost bite ๐ฏ
I went out and rode 100km yesterday on a local loop. Was just under 40kmh. Helps when you have a bunch of 60 racing though. Normally closer to 30kmh but it is flat for round here.
It is willy waving but it is also kind of pointless. Two rides, one a TT and the other just a ride. One with an average of 40kph the other at 30kph. Same route, solo ride, different bike, kit and situations.
If you really want to do meaningful willy waving you're better talking about watts or better still watts per kilo.

Definitely don't want it dropping off........well i suppose it would put an end to the thread! ๐
Last 2 Sunday Club rides:
81.3 miles at 20.3mph ave. 4,200+ft ascent
90.2 miles at 18.9mph ave. 6,200ft ascent
Tight group formation with rolling rotations on the front, which obviously helps up the average. You've still got to pedal hard though!
18.1mph over 66 miles/3,852ft yesterday. Mostly solo, sometimes in a loose group. The winning male rider finished 45 minutes ahead of me ๐

That's worthy of recognition. Even in a group it's still very good going. Feel free to wave your willy!

That would suggest they were averaging about 25mph. No where near impossible but that is some going (especially for your average 'sportive' rider - no insult intended just that by the time you get that quick, you've usually moved on from sportives to Cat three or two racing or time trials).
I guess there were a few "handy" riders taking part. The winning female rider was Lee Craigie (Scottish Commonwealth MTB XC rider ) in 2:57.
The guy that is in first place is a decent track racer, kicked my arse a few times anyway. Obviously only the best of the best can manage that ๐
Certainly dismisses the "Sportives are not races" thing when you've that quality of rider participating and they're doing medal ceremonies ๐
I was above average on the way in today,I hope to repeat that on my home run ๐
100 miles 17.2 all on my jack jones 1500m of climbing in the Chilterns last Friday
Have shied away from this tread as i am new to road cycling but i rode the Etape Loch Ness yesterday too, it was my first sportive and my Garmin says I averaged 18.3mph over the 66 miles. Had a comfort break and minor mechanical so the race time was 5mins longer at 3 hours 39 minutes so I would guess similar overall pace to scotroutes.
I have never cycled that fast before, it was way faster than i thought i could go.
Well I had my first 21mph average on a solo ride last weekend - 31.6miles but only 850ish ascent. Must have been my new funky jersey that made me superfast.
Can we add KOM's in this thread as well? Picked up another 2 yesterday ๐

Definitely KOM's are the ultimate willy waver! ๐ Post up your links.
In fact everyone get your KOM links posted here!!!
You all need to go and enter a TT!
Knocked myself out yesterday. 72 miles, 2558' climbing (big for down here, (Chinnor Hill, Whiteleaf,Wardrobe)
Average just bellow 17 mph.
If I could do double that climbing, and do it that much faster I'd be winning races.
Got 10th in last weeks road race, open road. That was just over 24mph average. Just shows ya.
geetee1972
standard road bike, no clip ons.
Long 21 10 mile
Short 57 25 mile
Last road race outright win 2013
Best overall position in cx league 5th
19th in vets national cx
that's me all waved out
Average still under 17, possibly 16 over the year
Bloody hell, if I could maintain 17mph with that much hill over that sort of distance I'd be well chuffed.
Nice one oldgit ๐
