Which road bike shoes would you guys recommend for my wide feet?
I`m size 41 and have Shimano carbon soled shoe. They are perfect in length but after about 40km my feet are killing me. I need a wider shoe.
Thanks

Are you sure you’ve got the right size Shimano shoe? I’ve just got a pair, normally A 43 but was recommended a 45. Was suspicious, but went with it and they are fine. A43 would have been too small for sure. They’re maybe half a size too large if I was wanting something just snug for ULTIMATE performance, but I’ve got room for a second pair of thin socks and the boa things do a good job of tightening them. My feet are wide too.

Odd. Shimano are usually good for wide feet.

Have you over tightened them, perhaps?

Lake cycling shoes FTW, very comfortable for my wide feet.

I've got wide feet so I know the feeling (or lack of). I could never stay warm in winter. I'm now on my second pair of SIDI Dominator mega shoes which are excellent for me. They are MTB shoes but they do do a mega version of plenty of their road shoes. I think the base (which is fairly flat across the foot) is the same but there's extra material/volume in the upper shoe.

lake is the correct answer IMO

or Bont make a wide fit too, but they're a very ridid carbon "tub" so you have to be lucky with your foot shape

(I use shimano but my problem isn't wide feet, it's flat feet so arch support matters most to me)

Definitely Lake. Quite pricey, but worth it if you struggle with normal width shoes.

Actually Lake start at about £70 or even less if you shop around, both my pairs of road shoes are Lake CX161s, three velcro straps instead of the ubiquitous Boa dials but that's fine by me.

No lightweights but I've got my eyes on some CX3o1s as summer climbing slippers 🙂

Bontrager Velocis get some good reviews for being a wider fit.

Gaernarfon used to do a specific wide fit for road shoes, used them for road and mtb for about the last ten years

Lake are the default option, Bont if you want something properly stiff.
Shimano do a wide version in some shoes so they may be worth a look too.

Giro do a High Volume version of their shoes but I don’t think they’re actually wider. Shimano also have wide fit options.

Wondering as well if your Shimano shoes are just stiffer than you’re used to and whether your feet will get used to them, given the length is spot on?

Sidi Mega (has a few different Sidi ones but Mega means wide in Sidi language). Currently using Sidi Alba, but after a bike fit I use a high arch support too that makes the difference for me.

Lake!
Don't even think about anything else. I have feet like frogman's flippers, with added gouty bunions, and nothing comes close to Lake shoes. I've tried 'em all...

Don’t Shimano do at least two widths?

Shimano Wide fit. Ive got a pair of R171 (now replaced by the rc7) wide's as nothing fits my feet, even other supposedly wide brands. The downside is they only do a couple of models them.

They are seriously wide though. Like I said everything else Ive ever tried is too narrow and these are a little wide so the one piece upper wrinkles.

Bont is the standard answer I am reliably informed. I have the opposite problem and wear tightly laced Giros for my D-width stick thin feet.

But does anyone actually make a shoe that is shaped like a foot? Pull the liner out and stand in it. I bet your toes don't fit.

Also Hobbity hoofed, I have a pair of Bonts and whilst tight when walking or standing they are snug when pedalling. I also have Fizik and these are comfy too. In the past Specialized and Shimano have been great.

As a hobbit-footed rider these suggestions are great. I'd also suggest trying Bontrager road shoes, I have a pair that feel really wide (ie they don't make my toes numb)

Sidi Mega FTW. Had loads of issues with numb toes with other shoes, but these are the only ones I can ride in for days on end without getting discomfort of any sort. Love 'em!
