Hi Chaps,
I just had a tyre blow off the rim on my road bike, clinchers...
I hadn't used the bike for a few weeks - so the pressures were down to about 30spi, I upped them to 100psi front and rear, and as I was standing by the van the front tube exploded and the tyre burped off the rim.
Can anyone advise as to why it happened? The tyres and tubes had been used before on the same bike, and hadn't been removed since the last use.... all I did was to pump them up again to a standard pressure.
The tyres are Conti GP4000s, so rated upto 120psi. The tubes are Chen Shin thin things.....
Any help, as that was a bit of a shock, and glad I wasn't riding at the time.

Tube caught between tyre and rim?
So far that's my only thought, although it's a little odd if so - as I'd ridden the bike not that long ago and haven't changed the tyres or tubes....
Could it has been wheeling the bike in and out of the house, that's creased the tube inbetween the tube and rim?
The same happened to me the other week on a set of SL's with GP4000S and schwable tubes. I had pumped it up after it had lost a little pressure and about 10 miles into a ride I heard a rubbing, a bit of a wobble and a bang. Sometimes when you use CO2 it can twist the tube. Other than that, put it to the back of your mind as a one off event, it's the first time it's ever happened to me in thousands of miles.
Might want to double check the tyre though after

Yep, I'm going to check the tyre for kinks as I've seen the same with MTB tyres on tubeless and had the bead destroyed.

Unlikely if you still had 30psi in the tyre. Is the tyre sidewall ripped or is it undamaged?
they go pop every now and then. could be any number of things.
It can sometimes be to do with the valve not being seated in the tyre properly meaning that the bead of the tyre cannot sit against the rim.
When you reassemble with new bits pump up to a few psi then push the valve up into the tyre to make sure that the beads of the tyre are below the bulge caused by the valve. Then inflate to full pressure. Only then tighten up the lock ring (if you use them).
Also double check that none of the tube is being pinched by the tyre.
It has only happened to me once or twice so hopefully a new tyre and tube will fix the problem.
The sidewall looks undamaged at first glance, but I've not spent enough time with the tyre yet to determine exactly if it is or not.
Hopefully it's fine, as it's a pretty new GP4000s....
How far had you ridden it before? I fitted new latex tubes a while back, did a 15 mile test ride OK then the next day pumped them up again ready for a sportive and the front went bang as I must have trapped the tube slightly but it managed to last a short ride
One of my Diamants blew, not nice getting a front tyre blow out. Luckily I wasn't doing 40mph downhill. Kevlar bead went, two ride old.
