Any recommendations for a shortish road route from Windermere/Bowness. Say around 40 miles or 2-3 hours to complete. I'm thinking kirkstone pass but not sure what the conditions are like as it was closed yesterday. Not sure I fancy a steep decent on wet roads anyway. Head for the coast maybe?
Ferry across the lake and head for Hawkshead, stay low and sheltered...
Circuit of the lake. South to Newby Bridge. Up through Grizedale, maybe with a stop at the visitor centre cafe. Up through Hawkshrad, Ambleside and back down to Windermere. The eastern side of the lake can get busy but you can nip off it in places and use the hillier back roads.
If you stop in Hawkshead, grab a brew at the Sun Cottage Cafe.Great food, all cooked in-situ and you could chock the wheels of an Airbus with the slices of cake they serve!!.
Yeh I was thinking a circuit of the lakes as the roads are pretty quiet at the moment. Think I've missed the best of the weather this morning though and homes under the hammer has just come on
