Wife has a nice 10cm * 15cm patch of road rash on her thigh. What is the best method to treat it?
Cheers.
She also has an absolute belter of a chainring mark down her leg.
if its bad use flamazine to prevent infection and dress the wound. If not just keep it moist (vaseline & gauze under the dressing) so the new skin can form, don't let it dry out. Anyway this might help... http://www.singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/wound-healing-gravel-rash-specifically-to-cover-or-not
M(W)TFU, wear it with pride!
Essentially it will heal up what ever you do.
You could leave it alone, just wash it gently with water and let it dry out, it will scab and crack a bit, but will heal up.
You could use a fancy dressing, the old hydrocolloid thingy, which will make it heal a little bit faster, but will be an expensive way of doing it unless you work somewhere that has those type of dressings available, like a hospital..
Or, you could wash it, then slather it in non-perfumed moisturising cream, cover it in cling film at bed time, and repeat until healed.
The last option is what I do, despite having access to the hydrocolloid stuff.
Antiseptic creams are not that much use on road rash; it's already a pretty dirty wound however you clean it. Flamazine is the sort of stuff we use on burns, which are sterile wounds to start with.
Keep it moist, keep it clean, but without scrubbing off all the new skin cells that grow...
Road rash. Oh the memories...
Thigh you say?
I'm afraid pics are required before the correct treatment can be offered 😉
Actually it's more like her arse.
