Afternoon all,

My Dad is about to buy himself a road bike and needs some advice on pedals. He has a lot of problems with his knees and so doesn't want clipless pedals. He also has a dislike of clips and straps.

So, any suitable road specific flat pedals out there? Or shall I just put his V12's on to a road bike?

Old skool rat trap or quill pedals would look best.V12s would look plain wrong!

Also curious. Have given up SPDs on MTB and have Shimano A530 on the road bike.

Last few longer rides have just gone in trainers and not felt any need to be clipped in, doesn't seem slower either so might just switch to a light platform pedal.

What about something like a MKS pedal with no strap and a half toe clip? Should be easy to release and still give a little extra transfer on the climbs. They're "MKS half toe clips" if you fancy searching for them

I like these [img] [/img]
I've got them on a couple of bikes - nice and small (V8s, V12 look silly - I've tried it), light , enough grip.

Not the touring model, but the stream which a bit narrower. £20!!

They'll still be spinning perfectly in ten years time with no greasing. superb pedals

What about these Ergons

http://www.ergon-bike.com/gb/en/product/pc2 was thinking about getting them for my commuter their other products (grips especially) are excellent.

If the problem is his knees why not get a free floating pedal like the speedplays? You can adjust them from fixed to masses of float feel weird at first but had them on my last road bike and they were great for my knackered knees, even better than Times.
