Looking at the possibilties of some new shoes which will be used for dry weather summer riding only I've noticed that the road shoes are a) lighter and b) cheaper. What are the disadvantages of using SPD compatible road shoes over and above the MTB version?
Mostly danger ๐
Road shoes aren't much good for walking in and are stoopid stiff - wouldn't even consider it.
I just snapped the straps of my spesh road shoes after riding Xc in them over the winter.
Thats not to say they wouldn't have snapped from riding on the road, but snap they did.
Also;
You cant walk in them, at all, its impossible.
They are very thin, the first puddle and thats it, wet feet for the rest of the ride with a gale force wind blowing through the mesh.
Overshoes don't stay on them very well.
ever seen roadies on their coffee stops tottering around and skidding all over their precious parquet floors? Imagine that on the trail....
Youre asking this, no seriously.... ๐
Mmmm....thought there must be a catch
I use my Tahos (MTB shoes) for my road bike and MTB and they work fine. No plans to go the "other" way and look like ED209...
Unless you have floating cleats on your road shoes you will find it very difficult to move your weight around on the bike as your feet won't be able to flex from side to side at all. I'd say don't bother.
Love the look of the Gaerne Vega's & Lapo's, my Diadora Chilli's have done me well but I'm fancying the Gaerne's.
Google it cos I'm crap at linky stuff.
