Sorry for rather boring and predicatble 'will I die' type question. I'm looking to build a lightweight set of wheels for general peak district riding. I currently have a DT M1850 set which are pretty heavy duty, and pretty heavy.

The Prime RD010 hub, or Novatech equivalent, looks pretty good. I'd like straight pull spokes ideally. I'm guessing it's designated for road use because the bearings are a bit smaller - is there likely to be any other major differences? I weigh 65kg, and although not the most finessed of riders, I tend to be fairly light on kit (touches wood). SHould be fine right?

Any other suggestions for a decent lightweight rear hub?

IN reponse to the inevitable - yes, I do know it's only a hundred grams or so to get a mtb specific one, etc etc 😉

I've had that hub on wheels used for CX racing and on the road. The bearings didn't last long at all. The hope hubs I've fitted in the past lasted much longer and aren't a PITA to service when you do need to change them. Get a decent hub as the old adage goes, buy cheap, buy twice or even thrice for that matter.

As above reliability would be more of a priority for me. Strength wise it should be fine. No appeal for straight pull spokes for me either

I've got a prime road wheelset I use for CX, so has a similar hub. I don't think they're particularly well sealed so expect to replace bearings frequently if you go this route.

Bearings in road wheels often come with just a single side sealed so that is probably your main issue along wth what you've pointed out with smaller bearings (lighter innit). Theorectically might be more flex with bracing anlges and less material but I don't think thats as much of an issue with disk brakes (as apposed to rim brakes rubbing when wheel flexes)

Oh, and the obvious only 24 spokes.

I’d like straight pull spokes ideally.

Why?!
