Anyone tried this? My plan is
- Planet X model C rims
- Stan's tape (wrapped twice) and sealant
- Conti Gatorskins (or other 'puncture resistant' tyres)
I'd plan to run them at 80 - 100 psi.
Am I dicing with death?
Any experiences of success or unmitigated disaster appreciated.
Only proper ust tyres (Hutchinson) have ever been recommended for road tubeless due to the high pressures
I've converted normal cross tyres ok but they're run at a much lower pressure
The yellow tape will be ok as I've taped Mavic Askium and used Hutchinson Fusions with them
Try it, what's the worst that could happen???
There have been posts where folk have used other tyres OK, can't remember which ones tho! Stans or weightweenies may be good forums to ask on.
I got hutch's working on open pros but it was a faff. Alphas better but still took a few goes to get seated. The decrease in spoke tension once the tyres seat is scary!
Mmmmmm..... might not be worth all the hassle. I really don't fancy a downhill blowout in traffic at 30 mph.
Alternatively I've heard good things about the ride quality of Velocity A23s, 426g and nice and wide, maybe I'll get them built up to the hubs off the model Cs and use some nice 25mm tyres.
"ride quality of A23s" โ I can't see how they will be significantly better than the usual suspects. If you are building up new wheels, I personanlly think tubeless is the way to go - i's not just weight loss with the alphas, but ride quality.
