In the process of stripping down a road frame I found that both the gear cable adjusters, that screw into the bosses either side of the toip of the downtune, had seized. After much faffing, one came out fine..... the other, being essentially a rusty plain steel M5 bolt with a large hole through the middle sheared off. Grrr.
My working solution is to drill both bosses out with a 5mm hole and take the adjusters from this set http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/modolo-morphos-down-tube-stops-set-prod20642/ and pass them through the hole, nipping them up with the nut on the other end. Sorted. My only niggle with this is that the adjusted appears to be plastic which I'm worried will wear over time.
So, anyone know of of an equivalent metal part (the thread length needs to be AT LEAST 20mm, preferably 25 mm), or am I worrying about nothing and go with the plastic bits?
