right, so my Specialized Singlecross commuter got nicked and needs replacing
I quite fancy something with gears this time

it will mostly be used for riding to work and going to the shops so would prefer if it wasn't too racey and wheels that could take a few knocks

not essential but would be better if it wasn't one of the big brands (Spec, Giant, Genesis, Cannondale, Trek etc.) as they're pikey-magnets

would prefer new (as I might go along the HP route and it's easier to deal with insurance if it gets nicked) but would consider second hand

what can I get for £500?

Just remembered, Liphook Cycles have got a nice stelvio road bike in stock atm, sans decals. Forks still look a bit flashy though, but its only £400 I think.

Surosa or Ribble winter trainer/audax bike should be around the £500 mark, ideal all year round commuter.( For what its worth if it was my money I'd get the Surosa)
