[#578228]

So today i rode in humvees, 661 rajis, giro hex, and mtb shoes. Is there anything to wear on a road bike that isn't lycra and make me look like a tit?

Slim fitting baggy shorts?

I've been thinking of trying these for a "less-extreme-lycra" look.

Nowt wrong with wearing baggies and MTB shoes on road bike! Lulls them into a false sense of security then you can whoop their butt! sod wearing skin tight lycra that just shouts out "whippet" to me ... which I know I'm not!!!! Sticking to the baggies this end .

Baggies are shit when it gets wet though. Mind you, I guess most folk off here never ride in the rain.

Wear what you want. Why bother posting on a web site about it.

Methinks you're just gonn have to find a decent shop and try on a few styles. Either that or look at Rapha

Just wear what you want, but be aware that most road bike riders will look at you in the same bemused way as you'd look at someone on a mountain bike in the middle of winter wearing skin-tight white roadie club Lycra...

The reason roadies wear Lycra is that it works, doesn't billow on fast descents, road tops have pockets to stash food etc.

As you're clearly super fast, you should maybe get yourself on a club run or two.

I think i may win a 'looking like a prat' dressed very inappropriate road riding gear for my epic 95 mile trip last week.

mtb shoes, kona socks, Altura waterproof shorts, over shimano under shorts(with thigh pads) Team Giant race top(from 90's)in blue and a buff, No LID but full fingered sombrio gloves.

Bike a Yellow steel Kona.

Warra twonk!

lol

Its easy to ride away from a club that are out on a training ride. It's the staying away for the next 80 miles when they are working together that's the difficult bit.

i did a mountain bike race on saturday like this:
[img] [/img]
somewhat suprisingly no one laughed or pointed. And there was a long grassy descent where i ran out of gears and 'aero tucked' and was very glad not to be 'billowing about'.

Fair point though r-r, Nick Craig used to stir it up just by road racing in spd's with a peak on his helmet...

So you wore MTB stuff and thought you looked like a twonk. You won't wear lycra because you'll look like a twonk.

Spot a pattern?

I don't think the problem is limited to road bikes.

RR - do you think that what other people think you look like is more important than function?

I think people who don't wear full lycra on a road bike have body image issues

i sweat more in lycra than i do in baggy attire, which makes me more uncomfortable when riding.
i do not race, so do not need the aero benefits of lycra.
