looking at getting a road bike and have a few requirements:
must take a rack
must take full mudguards
budget of around £500

does the specialized Allez tick all these boxes?

the giant SCR range does all that though can't remember which one is around £500.
I have a scr2 and use it daily to get to work with full length guards on and find it very good for that.

Surosa and Ribble both make audax/training bikes which would fit the bill rack mounts, mudgaurds around £500. There are many others if you can stretch the budget a little.

Another vote for the SCR range, 2009 being replaced by the Fury range, which looks a bit racier, but will still take guards. Anyway here's my quick garden pic of my SCR2. Rack, guards, carbon fork, crosstop levers, Tiagra 3x9. 26mm tyres. Good mix of practicality, speed and comfort.
