[#9600132]

So, thinking of repurposing a rigid 29er for a bit of commuting duties during the week. Currently running a XT M8000 mech, would a 11 speed road casette on a cx wheelset work? 11-42 seems overkill

I've had a bit of a Google and could only find reference to 9/10 speed and not sure if any nuances related to 11 speed

Cheers

11 speed road cassettes are wider than MTB cassettes so will not fit on the freehub.

11 speed road and mtb cassettes are the same spacing...

...however, road needs a slightly longer freehub.

Does your current hub have a spacer behind the mtb cassette?

So if I got a 11 speed road compatible hub on the second wheelset could i just switch out without resetting the indexing

possibly. That depends on whether each cassette sits exactly the same distance from the inside face of the dropout.

I have to re-index when I swap wheels from a Deore hubbed & XT combo to switch evo hubbed and SLX combo
