This doesn’t appear to have been done for a while, I can only find some old threads that suggest that either; (A) you will be fine or (B) your tyre might pop of and you’d die!

So what sort of setups have people tried and how have you got on?

I currently have the stock wire bead Schwable Lugano 23c tyres on my road/commuter which are fairly poorly regarded. I’m thinking of going 28c ghetto tubeless for a minimal punctures / fix and forget type set up. My rims are Maddux Disc R3 (Cannondale standard fair) non tubeless. My plan would be Schwable One Tubeless tyres with Stans valves and sealant with some electrical tape on the rims? So its £85 worth of stuff from Bike Discount DE which I’m hoping will save me time and money long term? Or am I about to waste time and money?

Ones are good tyres, in 28mm. I'd tape up the rims with something stronger than lecky tape though - see 3M crossweave on ebay (19mm). Clean the rim properly, dry it, and stick the tape down tight and hard!

Whether you need a rimstrip/ghetto depends on the rim bed shape. Try it with just tape first. I've only had one rim not work, and that was because it was too narrow.

You'll only die if you use non-tubeless tyres. And the only real/potential problem with tubeless tyres is getting it inflated in the first place on a non-tubeless rim. If you get it up you'll be fine.

Reggie, Thanks for that. I can add stans yellow for £9 to the order so might as well go down that road. I will give them a good clean before applying tape. For inflation I’m planning lots of soapy water to help get the tyre on and to seat the bead, I have a mini co2 pump and am hoping this will have enough pop to get them up initially.

This needs to be a right first time job.

I will post from the other side if it goes wrong!
