[Closed] rivy - nab wood - confession time

What bike you using?
Needs a proper downhill bike IMHO

Using a specialised full susser? What type you thinking of?

all the folks I have seen there riding it (well) have been on 40 lb plus downhill machines not a do all but FULL on downhill (Giany Glory for example)
It is fairly hard on anything else IMHO and is rideable with a FS but some of the black stuff is pretty knarly and has no margin for error.

That's a challenge I can't ignore. I'll be up there this week on a fixed, rigid bike.

There must be way more stuff in Nab Wood than I've seen then, cos all the bits I've come across look perfectly doable on a HT. I'm pretty certain that all Hadge04 wants is for someone to help her get the hang of rolling through the bumpy features (little rock gardens), getting round the berms a bit quicker and rolling the small steps with more confidence. Her Spesh is more than capable of that.

I've done it on my Cotic Soul (both the red and black bits) and i'm no trail god by any stretch of the imagination.

the red is just tight and twisty, the black is steep and if you take it slow is OK.

People anything is rideable on anything [well nit by me but you know what I am saying). I have also ridden it in on a hardtail at night with only 80mm travel ... I did not die but it was not the best bike for the trail and not being able to see how big the drops were was interesting.

If you want to hammer down it and clear the rocks /jumps etc I would want a Downhill bike that is my only point yes your bike will not break on the course and you can ride it /mince down /jump a bit whatever

We look like that as the person before has just been untangled from his bike after crashing quite badly

yeah, recognise lowey. Anyway, chap who looks a lot like Deejay just tagged onto my wheel in Lostock even when I opened it up a bit. I was hoping he'd still be there for the big hills so we could have a race but he dipped out and seemed to ride into an exclusive gated estate with Aston's and Rollers in it.

Where abouts is Nab Wood? Usually start from car park below Pigeon Tower...any chance of some rough directions?

junkyard is good with directions, I usually just follow 🙂 been there 3-4 times but doubt could find it alone.

Samurai it won't have been Deejay unless he was on a reeeeally long commute he lives round darlington way, oh and he's a bit tasty on a mountain bike.

There is a back lane called HEALY FOLD Lane iirc from higher healey road to charnock road (bridleway sign off road leading to a farm at this end Higher healey road has a gate opposite a house with sign saying healey nab wood and something about being a place of rest or something...this is closer to the Nab if you want to park but no where obvious to park.

Cycle along this and there is an obvious path to the right /left (depending on direction of travel going upwards (at highest point on lane says 194 on the map) follow this 400 m ish and then enter the woods through gate and cycle up and at top point is entrance to start on your right if you start going downhill (not on the track ) you have gone to far/gone wrong

IMHO I would not travel far for it as it is very short or compact if you prefer.

I have been there a few times and I have never seen anyone on anything other than a XC or Trail bike. I followed a lad on a Specialized Stumpjumper down the black and he flew over everything landing all the jumps without a sound I managed the first big drop with a big thump on landing but bottled the one halfway down I now just stick to the Red bits I am too fat and old to crash.

oh and he's a bit tasty on a mountain bike.
