My RIP 9, or "bike of doom" as it has become affectionately known in recent weeks, finally died a few days ago, when the seat tube snapped in half as I rode up a hill (different place from last time for anyone who knows the bike).
On the off chance that they might be able to help me out, on the basis that it was a known fault with early RIPs, I dropped Jungle an email. While they couldn't warrantee it, they did me an outstanding deal on a much later model that they'd had as a demo bike. Couldn't be more chuffed. A big thanks to Jonty at Jungle. Pics to follow as soon as it arrives.
RIP? Jungle?

I knew that was a death bike from the off!
Looking forward to seeing pics of the new bike!
whats a rip? never heard of them
I think it's a niner jedi.
How old was it?
RIP = rest inpieces
It was an 07/08, and to be honest, I was expecting the rear triangle to go, given how much it flexed with my heft aboard. The newer version pictured above is massively stiffer I'm told.
I like their thinking, build a lethal design flaw in to all of their bikes just hoping one would get through.....Its like a china syndrome maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan:-)
lol @ speshpaul
Glad they helped you out. I have ridden the old RIP's and the new are way stiffer. That was the problem they addressed with that change.
I have a 2009 still going very strong and can't detect any play in the rear triangle when pushing it side to side.
I normally get the 2 year itch about now and need to change/upgrade frames but I've lost that with this bike - I just spent a whole lot of money changing and upgrading the 2 year old componentry instead so I'm planning on staying with this bike a lot longer.
The 2010 and 11 models are a bit slacker in the front but I find my bike perfect for the trails in South Wales that I ride.
Love to see pics of the new ride when you've got it.
I loved the old one in every respect except the inability of the rear wheel to follow the front when cornering - and it's breakiness.
The new one, with 120 forks will be as much bike as I could ever need, and because it didn't break the bank I can still keep my Soda, which frankly will still get ridden most (here in Norfolk).
Dubyuh's got an early Jet 9 in the picture. They really were lethal, and got recalled I think. All except one.
