thanks for standing up for me chaps.

This being an internet forum an' all you really ought to develop thicker skin though. 8)

My bad in the first place for scan reading, I believe my response adequately emphasised the rather OTT response. 😆

Now where are these magical £20 rims?!

It's because you've frightened him off with your nastiness. 🙁

Now, if you apologise nicely to ScienceOfficer, for your disgraceful behaviour, maybe we'll all get to learn about £20 Mavic 719 rims.

No you haven't. Not properly.

Now, go and say 'I'm sorry, ScienceOfficer, for being so nasty and mean, and I promise it won't happen again.'

Go on. We're waiting.

...and Rigida Zac 19R are decent rims, also 19mm wide, double eyeletted and I've built probably around 14ish, they build up well.

Indeed. I already have the hub, which happens to be a 32h.

At 610g each, I'm surprised you had the strength to heave that many of them up into your wheel builing jig! 😉

The current favourite WTB Dual Duty are 450g
(21mm wide and only 10g more then a 719, for £30 a pair less)

Sooo, back to the original question. Mavic EN521's are a bit beefier than 719's and a bit wider so weigh 540gm vs the 719 at 460gm. On CRC the 719's are £40 and the 521's £30 so 25% cheaper.

Yep, maybe so, but with that much weight increase I'd expect more than 'a bit beefier' for starters, and WTBs are £27, and 450g. 🙂 SEE HERE

The hoofing great big Sun SOS rims I have, and referred to earlier, on my Pitch are slightly lighter than 521s, and they're only £22!

To ba fair, I'm quite happy with the longevity of the 717s I have at the moment, but I can't really fit much wider tyres on them without them folding off the rims in the corners.
My rear 717 is pretty knackered, but still going, and the hub attached to it is past it's best too. I've got a nice spare rear hub (DT Swiss) ready to build up to replace said shonky wheel, and rather than just putting another 717 on, the idea is to get a pair, and put a slightly wider rim on the front as well. I think I'm OK for spokes, so a pair of those WTBs seem about right to me, not much more than a single 717, but not an eye-watering £82 for a pair of 719s. 😀

Talkemada - You're a teacher aren't you?

PP EN521s are great rims. Was a toss up between 719s and 521s, went for the 521s for 2 reasons. Wider so better tyre profile and no rolling off the rim. Stronger too, so my lardy carcass isn't killing them like the 717s i had before.

No, no; I'm the Chief Inquisitor. Far less terrifying! 😀

Have you apologised yet Poddy? No, you haven't, have you? 🙁
