Love a rigid steel mtb. Wouldn’t want to ride any other sort of mtb these days.

A roadie until about 5 months ago I decided to ressurrect my old Scott Sawtooth mouldering in a corner of my garage. A bit of minor maintenance and off I went to Swinley. Loved it and have subsequently bought a Bossnut. I think the Sawtooth must be getting on for around 30 years old?

Lots of clean, shiny, blingy bikes here, so to even things up a bit:

1*1

Surly 1*1 - build for the slop, so perfect for conditions at the moment.

It has been cleaned in the past, but i think the last time was 2015. Seat post has been stuck since about 2013.

Major upgrade was the mudhugger last year.

Whilst I like the simplicity of the SS/Rigid set up, I only associate this bike with winter/cold/rain/mud, so will never be my favourite.

Supposed to be a fat bike, but suits me just fine as a 29+! Don't seem to have any pictures of it without any luggage attached...

Just built, a bit weird
null

In fact far too wierd so the bars have been changed for some Mary's after one ride
null

And due to the ingenuity of some STW person (can't remember who) it has a very cool dinglespeed set up

I don't think anyone on this thread is following the trends...

I've only managed a shakedown ride so far, but first impressions are good. It's lovely and light but I'm coming from a steel hardtail so it's going to feel different.

Frame quality looked good to me, seemed well finished.

I've got a whippet and carbon fork package coming this week.

Looking forward to getting it built and ridden 😀

@colin9

What does the whippet build weigh?

What size frame is it? It looks nice.

I don't know but I'd be quite interested to find out myself. The frame, forks, bars and wheels are all light, but the other finishing kit is mid range stuff so that's where weight gets added. I was trying to keep costs down.

It's an XL. I'm right on the middle of L/XL so I gave it a lot of thought and went bigger in the end. Seems OK so far.

@colin9 unfortunately the forks are out of stock, although that will give me the time to see if I like a rigid bike.

Ramin frame, rigid, SS, odd sized chubby wheels, graffiti splatter paint (under the mud)!

@colin9 the Whippet (🙄edit) looks great. Would the fork take a 29x3 tyre?

I'm pretty sure it would, there is absolutely bags of space in there.

I haven't a picture to hand, but those tyres are 2.3".

It's an Exotic carbon 29" boost fork by the way.
