I need some V-BRAKE rigid forks (26" wheel) - anyone have any recommendations or forks to avoid like the plague...

Surly 1x1 forks are pretty good for the money, particularly if you're after a shortish fork - they're 413mm axle to crown. Take big tyres too.

The Salsa CroMoto ones look nice too (425mm a-to-c), but I haven't tried them.

I've got these and they seam fine. I haaven't tried them off road though, but I think they are the same as alot of genetic carbon rigids. They are cheapish and come it lots of different heights.
