Finally built up a bike that I think is worthy of allowing me to go downhill fast and see if i'm any good against other people!
Does anyone on here already race against others in competitions and how did you get started? where do you ride? whats involved? cost? etc etc??
Is there any specific clubs I can join? thing is I don't wanna go somewhere that will make me look a nob if you know what I mean!
I have a million questions but won't bore you 🙂 basically I have a santa cruz bullit thats pretty decent and wonder what category it falls into and what riding?
Oh and i'm not talking full on downhill crazyness just really technical fast stuff.
Any advice would be great
I live in Nottingham if it helps.
buy a yellow t-shirt and race any road cyclists? that should build up your fitness 😀
Move out of Nottingham. There's no hills. Makes downhilling difficult.
🙂
Sorry - not much help there.
🙂
Join a club?
Look on CTC and British cycling websites for events.
Gain more info using google.
I like road sportives and it is easy to find the events.
Haven't a clue for downhilling. Email Steve Pete?
I just googled-loads of clubs out there and email teams too.
Wear a decent full face helmet and body protection too.
Hope you do well!
thanks Zaskar, can't believe my luck! just googled it and i'm entering the mini DH event at Chicksands Bedfordshire on 28th march 🙂
Should be fun will post the results when iv'e been!
Thanks
Good luck pmr!
Know a few DH'rs from back in the day and they are all awesome bike handlers who make it look easy!
Enjoy it, be safe and learn from the riders around you

Great! thanks guys 🙂
Go to an uplift day or two first, get the hang of the DHing then enter a race. From notts you'll have to travel a bit - one of the pearce cycles events might not be too far?
Or you could head north to hamsterley.
Do an uplift day, look on downhill websites like southern downhill or descent world.
your closer than you think to some propper DH tracks, unless your miles form the motorway you could probably be at warncliffe in under 30min!
Hardest bit is re-adjusting your perception of speed, take the beast/chapel gate for example, its all very well saying you can clear them, clipped in, on your rigid niche-tastic bike. But it takes 10 minutes. Its quite another taking it at full pelt on a DH bike and telling your brain to pedal not brake!
Learning to jump doubles is simlary terifying, learn on big tabletops/step-ups and progress onto doubles and step downs. I'm still unable to switch off the sensible part of my brain over doubles!
