[#451695]

Debating on a new seat or trailer for the boy so that we can go on bike rides together. He is 2 & 1/2 and the size of a 3 & 1/2 year old and has been using a hamex rear seat which has been ok, although he is a heavy chap and the handling is now really quite dodgy with a v light front-end. So I was wondering whether I should get a trailer or one of those new Little Ones Come Too seats? The LOCT seat appeals to me, but then it's not really about me is it, he's got to be comfy and have fun?

Oh and I'd like it to last too, so it has to have room for a big boy to grow.

Any thoughts or experiences?

I used to use a hamex sleepy, my boy was also quite heavy, so the bracket bumped on the wheel if you went over bumps and if you put it higher it upset the balance of the bike - i wouldn't go for the LCT option myself - neverliked the idea, and always petrified of the kid flying over the bars in an accident, and you would probably go quick with him on it - i ended up getting a trailer which he loves - he can ride now, but still got the trailer, it's great!

LOCT is awesome and allows the child much more interaction and understanding of what's happening whilst on the bike. I had some memorable outings with my 3yr old daughter at the end of last summer with ours on the Turner 5-Spot that gave both of us a huge buzz. You really can ride some decent trails at a good speed to give them a good sense of the thrill - we ended up having to repeat a roll-in and out of a small valley (10ft deep) that we refered to as the rollercoaster because she loved the thrill of it!

She's just mastered a balance bike and I'm sure some of her motivation for wanting to ride it is based on her experience on the LOCT / Turner from last year.

My 2yr old son is up next!!

PS They are expensive but the workmanship & design is very very good.

Leave him in the car with the window cracked open a bit? Saves buying expensive stuff he'll grow out of!

used a trailer but not that great on serious off road ...hard on any uphill, no suspension and NOT meant to do more than 10 mph!!! I have two kids though so I can take them both (regularily fall asleep together in it) and packed lunch , nappies, drinks , locks etc in the cargo area behind.
If you want to do serious off road then get the LOCT which I have never used anything else ... parks towpaths fireroads bumpy off road trailer will be fine

You cant really hear or see them when they are in the trailer either ...strength or weakness you decide

I tried to find the website but it doesn't seem to exist. Are there any other stockists?

Recommend a WeeRide, similar to a LOCT

Looking at the weeride website, I would say it looks cumbersome and industrial compared to an LOCT. Fine for towpaths etc but not for real offroad riding. The weeride looks fairly limited in terms of age range too.

I would check out the video clips on the LOCT vs the ones on the weeride, and decide what you want it for. If you are using the LOCT on decent offroad stuff, then it's unlikely they'll fall asleep!!

To be honest I'd never take my children off road in the way that the inventor has in his video - they will be plenty good at hurting themselves, they don't need me joining in too!

I'm inclined to agree, but then my skill level is probably way below his.

If your child is already the size of a 3.5 year old then in a year they will presumably be the size of a 4.5 year old - that's quite big to have in "your space" in front of you. I have friends who put their just 3 yr old on a tag-along.

As for falling asleep - don't underestimate the ability of a tired 2.5 yr old to fall asleep anywhere, or the grumpiness of a 2.5 yr old who is kept awake too long!
