[Closed] Riding with stitches in neck

[#6207754]

9 days ago I had a cyst removed from my neck (just below hairline), which required 5 external stitches and one internal. All was well until yesterday when a load of liquid came out of the wound. A trip to the doctors revealed that it was slightly infected and so I'm on a course of antibiotics for the next week. I asked him whether or not I could exercise but he said not to do any heavy exercise to avoid sweat getting into the wound, but he was pretty vague when I tried to establish exactly what a few days meant.

So, how long do I need to leave it? Any doctors on here? Not being able to jog or go riding is driving me slightly insane. They're soluble stitches, so I have no removal date.

I'd finish the course of anti-biotics before doing anythign that's going to raise a sweat and accept the temporary insanity.

(I am not a Dr although I think they're discouraged from giving specific advice online now?)

I'd wait til the antibiotics are done and it's healed up. Given that it's already got infected, it would seem senisible to err on the side of caution!

Given the injury/circumstances I'd say it wasn't life threatening* and should be fine, though I would help prevent further infection by putting a waterproof plaster over it to keep sweat out.

* Medical disclaimer: I am not in anyway qualified to give medical advice, so if your head falls off due to infection then don't try and sue me.

Branchial cleft cyst?

I had one removed 2 1/2 years ago - I wouldn't do any exercise until it's fully healed and you've finished all the antibiotics.

I was going to agree with Calamity but suggest vaseline rather than a plaster to keep water/sweat out. However, core sounds like he knows what he's talking about so I've changed my mind. Wait until it's healed!

Just a sebaceous cyst, but a fairly large one.

I'll go with the consensus and reevaluate once I've finished the antibiotics.

Cheers all.
